The meaning of Aries Latitude goes deeper than simple definition. It stands for growth, evolution and brotherhood; important values that founding members Steven Long, Mike MacDonald and Robbie Simms have stood for since banding together in mid 1994 under the name "Can of Worms", along with lead guitarist Dave MacDonald and founding Aries Latitude member, Johnny Walsh. After the departure of Dave MacDonald in late 1996, Long, MacDonald, Simms, and Walsh created Aries Latitude and completely redefined their sound by adding elements of Mystic, Sci-Fi, and meaning to their music. In early 1997, Aries Latitude made its first impact by winning the 1997 Music Spirit East Talent Search, beating out local talent such as, Adam Langley and Insider, Q and Third Of A Dozen. The group then participated in Canadian Music Week and showcased its brand of Rock to an audience in Toronto. When the band returned home, Aries Latitude began preparations to record its first album. They met up with Fred Lavery, co-owner of Lakewind Sound Studios in Point Aconi, NS. With Lavery at the helm as producer, the band recorded the album in the summer of 1997 with the help of Engineers, Al (Hughie) Strickland, and Jamie Foulds as well as Musicians, Gordie Sampson, Jennifer Roland and Stephanie Hardy. The first single from the album, "A Day In Your Life" reached number 14 on Cape Breton's Top 40 Charts and went national in mid 1998 when the single was distributed by A&M Records. The bands media coverage grew strong and the name Aries Latitude was seen and heard on radio, television and newspapers throughout the Maritime Proviences. the coverage included such radio stations as CBC and CJCB, as well as television's Breakfast Television(ATV/ASN) where the band appeared three times, most recently in August of 1999. In mid 1999, Aries Latitude experienced a period of confusion and the direction it was taking led the band to take a four month hiatus. The band, however, returned in late July. Unfortunately, bass player and founding member Johnny Walsh did not return. Aries Latitude then recruited bass player and long time friend, Jamie Johnstone to fill the void. Since that time the band has regained its integrity and feelings of dedication and progress. Aries Latitude has always known that hard work and a little faith will always payoff in the long run and the band will continue to work hard for as long as it takes. | |||||
